CELEBRATING THE 225TH BIRTHDAY OF OUR NATION
In spite of a rainy and stormy weather along the Eastern Seaboard, millions of Americans came out to celebrate the 225th birthday of our Nation. The celebration consisted of parades, road races, festivals, fireworks and all kinds of outdoor fun activities. July 4th is one holiday where all Americans feel proud, happy and united.
Here in Atlanta, we started with the traditional Peachtree Road Race, the world's largest 10K, followed by a parade of several floats, cars and politicians. Over 55,000 runners participated in the race and more than 100,000 spectators cheered and supported the runners along the race. The winner was Kenyan John Korir.
Last year's champion, Alene Emere of Ethiopia, miscalculated the finish line. He stopped quarter of a mile short from the finish line. By the time he realized it, it was too late. John Korir had already passed him. Lornah Kiplagat, another Kenyan, defended her title by coming in first again.
In the evening, there was a spectacular display of fireworks at Lenox Square. Thousands of Atlantans had assembled to watch the show. Traditionally, the fireworks represent the final show which brings the ceremonies of the day to an end. There were fireworks all over the country. In Atlanta, Boston, New York City, Washington, D.C., and other major cities in the country.
The United States of America, in my opinion, ranks No. 1 among all other countries on this earth. It is the only country which offers the broadest measure of freedom and most liberties to its citizens. It offers one of the highest standards of living to its citizens. To the point where refugees from Central America, South America and other countries literally sacrifice their lives in an attempt to come and live in America. Our research and advancement in medicine and technology is incomparable. And for those who disagree and think that we are not the best, then we are the second best to none.
God Bless America!
